Merikasarmi

Merikasarmi is located in Katajanokka, Helsinki. The complex consists of eight buildings from different eras, the oldest of which, the Sailors' Barracks designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, was completed in the early 1820s and currently serves as the main building of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The area was originally built for the use of the Russian military in the early 19th century, and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs has operated there since the 1980s. During an extensive renovation carried out in 2018–2021, a conference center and a modern multi-space environment were introduced into the buildings. The site is not open to the public but is used for office purposes. The site has three saunas - a representative sauna and staff saunas for women and men.
