St. Lawrence's Chapel is the church building of the Kolari parish. The building, completed in 1999, was previously known as Ylläs Chapel. The chapel was designed by architect Kari Poskiparta, and behind its altar, instead of a separate altarpiece, a view opens onto the surrounding fell landscape. The chapel serves as a multi-purpose space where services, devotions, church ceremonies, concerts and exhibitions are held. The building has 200 seats, and its acoustics have been designed to suit concert use. Activities are organized year-round, and during opening hours the premises can also be visited for quiet reflection or to spend time. In the renovated premises of St. Lawrence's Chapel there is an apartment with a sauna for 2 people, with a mini-kitchen without hotplates or an oven. The chapel's name refers both to Saint Laurentius, who lived in the 3rd century and is, among other things, the patron saint of innkeepers, and to the home region of Lars Levi Laestadius.
