The Russian and Turkish Baths is a Russian-style banya founded in 1892 in New York City's Lower East Side. The sauna has been a regular haunt of Frank Sinatra, John Belushi and Martti Ahtisaari, among others. Indeed, the official presidential portrait of the latter greets the Finnish traveller next to the reception desk. Five different types of sauna, its own small restaurant and a cold water pool. Many consider the best sauna to be the really hot Russian-style banya with its enormous gas-heated stove. In none of the saunas can you throw water on the stones. On the top floor there is a cooling-off terrace. A single admission is 60 USD (in 2025). Not cheap, but absolutely worth a visit.
