The Nälkloukka Village Association, founded in 1980, is responsible for the area of six villages within the Kauka school district. Despite the decline in services, the association has developed the area and maintained a sense of community through volunteer work, celebrations and hobbies. The association owns and uses the Yliskallio dance pavilion, built through volunteer work, the Varvinranta sauna with its swimming beach, and a gathering space converted from a former school into a Village Home. Membership is open to everyone, regardless of place of residence.
