Porkkala Lighthouse

The Porkkala lighthouse is located on the open sea about 9 km off the Porkkalanniemi peninsula in Kirkkonummi. The concrete lighthouse was completed in 1920 to replace the Rönnskär lighthouse and served for a long time as Finland's last manned lighthouse. The building had a light tower, living quarters for the keepers, a sauna and a foghorn. The lighthouse was automated during the Soviet lease period (1944–1955) and was finally extinguished in 2015. Today it is a protected building and has been leased to Veikka Gustafsson, who organises limited visits. The islet is part of a seal protection area, so public access is restricted.
