Harakka Island is located a few minutes' boat ride from Kaivopuisto, by the open sea. The island has abundant vegetation and birdlife, and about half of its area is protected through four nature conservation areas. A connecting boat serves the island from spring to autumn from the Ullanlinna pier, but arriving by private boat or bringing dogs to the island is not allowed. Around the island runs a path of about one kilometer, including sandy sections and rocky parts. The Harakka Nature Center serves as a base for excursions, offering an archipelago nature exhibition, brackish water aquariums in the Aquarium House, and the Vellamo Story House. The island also has a fire pit for heating your own snacks, flush toilets by the pier area, and two outhouses in front of the nature house. In addition, the island has artists' studios and Gallery Lennätin, where visitors can view changing exhibitions.
