The legendary Sarvenperä Sauna Marathon, held since 2002, is a summer event in the shoreline landscapes of Sarvenperä and Saukkola, combining basic Finnish values: nature, sauna, and movement. The aim is to offer participants varied programming throughout the day, the chance to meet different people, and an introduction to local history and vegetation. The Sauna Marathon is not a competition; instead, teams of sauna enthusiasts are formed, and during the course of one day they take saunas at several different saunas — for example, in 2025, saunas were taken at 16 saunas, 15 minutes each. The walking distance covered is about 10 kilometers. The saunas are waterfront saunas and mobile saunas. The distances between saunas are covered on foot along village roads and mostly forest paths. The forest paths are challenging in places, requiring reasonable fitness. Part of the transitions can also be done by swimming from pier to pier. At every sauna, at least one proper round of löyly is thrown. There is no rushing. A total of about 10 hours is reserved.
