Valamo Monastery, officially the Monastery of the Transfiguration of Christ, is a monastery of the Finnish Orthodox Church located in Heinävesi. It was established at its current location in 1940, when the monks of Valamo on Lake Ladoga were evacuated after the cession of Karelia. The monastery continues the spiritual and cultural heritage of Valamo on Lake Ladoga. The monastery serves as an active center of Orthodox religious life and culture. Its peaceful atmosphere and beautiful natural surroundings offer visitors the opportunity for quiet contemplation and spiritual renewal. The monastery welcomes guests year-round. Valamo Monastery offers a wide range of services, such as accommodation, delicacies from the Trapesa restaurant, cultural events, art exhibitions, and icon painting courses. There is also a winery and a distillery on the monastery grounds, continuing the monastic traditions. In addition, handmade icons, candles, and other Orthodox products can be purchased from the monastery shop.
