Astrid is a wooden galeas-type coastal cargo vessel built in 1947 in the rural municipality of Porvoo, which carried cargo such as timber and sand. In 1969, sea captain Olli Tappola and his business partners bought Astrid straight out of freight service to serve as a school sailing ship, and the ship's old cargo hold was converted into a cosy forecastle that is still perfectly suited to relaxing and accommodation today. Today the ship is a three-masted topsail schooner and the only Finnish sailing square-rigged vessel.
