Vierumäki is a leisure, sports, education and training center. The center's operations are maintained by a limited company owned by business executive Mika Anttonen and Finnish sports federations. The Finnish Sports Institute Vierumäki was founded in what was then the rural municipality of Heinola in 1927, on the initiative of the Finnish sports influencer Lauri "Tahko" Pihkala. The Vierumäki area has lakeside saunas, two smoke saunas and the Holiday Club spa hotel. Sauna slots at the lakeside saunas can be reserved for groups through customer service, and tickets for open sauna slots can be purchased from the reception of Hotel Fennada. The saunas are located in the same building as the reservable restaurant Valkjärven Palmu.
