The Bengtsår camp island is located north of the Hanko peninsula, about 120 kilometres from Helsinki. The island is intended primarily for camp activities of youth groups, organisations and clubs, and it offers a setting for versatile outdoor recreation in the scenically beautiful inner archipelago. The area has seven separate camp areas, each with its own pier, kitchen shelter, campfire site, tent area and dry toilet. Four of the camp areas are located on the main island and three on nearby smaller islands. Two wood-heated saunas are in shared use. The island's nature is varied, and it includes, among other things, a grove area belonging to the national conservation programme as well as a 17-hectare nature conservation area. The site is open mainly during the summer season, and as a City of Helsinki facility it is a completely smoke-free and alcohol-free area.
