The hotel's roots reach back to 1894, when the restaurant Hamburger Bierhalle was opened on the site. Three years later, the building was given the name Hamburger Börs. The restaurant was bought at that time by a then only 28-year-old Miss Wallina Valtin. In 1904, Hamburger Börs began operating as a hotel. The company remained in Valtin's possession until 1947, when she sold her ownership to the Turku Cooperative Society. The Turku Cooperative Society gave up Hamburger Börs in the spring of 2019, and Scandic took over to continue hotel operations. The hotel building facing the square, built in 1979, was demolished, and a new building was constructed in its place. The new 272-room hotel Scandic Hamburger Börs opened in the autumn of 2021. The new building facing the inner courtyard houses the reception, a spacious lobby, and a large lounge area. The restaurant, a heated winter garden, and an outdoor terrace are located on the street level, and the Börs Katto bar with its large rooftop terraces as well as a sauna are on the 9th floor.
