OPEN SAUNA MAPThe sauna is located on the shore of Lake Näsijärvi, near Kaupinranta. A sauna has stood on the site since 1977, but it has undergone many transformations and grown over the years. Most recently, the sauna was reopened on 25 April 2010 after a thorough renovation, which became necessary due to a fire that raged in the sauna on 15 November 2008. The sauna is one of the largest winter swimming saunas in Finland. Its benches can seat about 60 people at a time. The stove contains 800 kg of sauna stones, which are replaced monthly on the maintenance day as volunteer work. Every day, 1–1.5 cubic metres of large logs are burned in the stove's firebox. The sauna is at its hottest at opening time, so that there is still enough heat for the last bathers of the evening. The sauna premises are owned by the City of Tampere, but the sauna is hosted and its operations managed by the Tampere Winter Swimmers association. Kaupinoja Sauna is open practically always, except on the second Tuesday of each month, when maintenance work is carried out there. In summer, the sauna is closed for a couple of weeks for annual maintenance. Exceptions are announced separately on the sauna's website.
