The founder of MeriKoivula spent 30 years vacationing and fishing in different parts of Finland. In recent years, it became apparent that four families didn't quite fit anywhere properly. Many places lacked a ramp for launching boats. Boat docks, boat rentals, and fish-cleaning tables are, in most places, either in poor condition or missing entirely. From all this arose a feeling that this form of vacationing had not received enough attention. Originally, the intention was to build something for one's own family and group, but then MeriKoivula came along.
