The Wooden Sauna is a loft sauna where the sauna experience is built as a spatial ritual and a slow transition away from everyday life. You take your löyly up on the bench platform, the loft, and wash below it. The heart of the sauna is a 110 cm diameter single-heating stove, whose heating is an essential part of the experience and of a use that emphasises "slow living". In addition to the sauna, the building has a tea room that frames the beginning and the end of the sauna experience – calming down before the sauna and quieting down afterwards. Whole, charred tree trunks form the load-bearing structure and the colonnade of the terrace beneath the canopy that encircles the building. The scale varies from intimate to spacious throughout the building: a low entrance, a high and airy terrace, and the sauna spaces, where views open onto a birch forest and, from the loft above, onto the open sea. The Wooden Sauna is architecture in which space, material and use intertwine. Or as Wallpaper writes: "In Puusauna, functionality meets poetry in the most beguiling of ways."
