This sauna has public shifts

Commercial Counsellor Antti Ahlström bought the ironworks from the Strömfors family in 1886. The plan for a new sauna to replace the original log sauna built in the 19th century was drawn up in 1956, that is, after the ironworks operations had ended. The sauna was completed in 1957. It was designed for the "gentlemen", for the use of the plastics factory's senior salaried employees. For the workers, a sauna and laundry building had been built in the 1940s near Saunasaari on the eastern bank of the river, on the site of a sauna that had stood there. Alvar Aalto had numerous building design and renovation projects with A. Ahlström, including in Strömfors. Citing his busy schedule, however, he turned to architect Nils Erik Wickberg regarding the design of the new sauna at Saunasaari. Public sessions have started again in the spring of 2024. There have been sessions for women, for men, and mixed sessions.
