Hietasaari allotment garden is a leisure and urban farming site located in Hietasaari, established on a plot leased from the city and run by an association. The area's earthworks and municipal infrastructure were completed in spring 2023, after which allotment garden cottages have been built on the site. The design and building guidelines of the garden area have drawn inspiration from Hietasaari's historical villa culture, which is reflected in the scale and details of the buildings. The area's operations are managed by the Hietasaari Allotment Garden Association, whose purpose is to promote and develop gardening as a leisure hobby. The association administers the plots and rents them out to gardeners. The plot sizes are typically about 250–300 square meters, and the leisure cottages built on them are at most 40 square meters in size. The plot holders' communal activities are supported by a community house built in the area, which serves as a gathering and lounging place for gardeners. The community house contains the area's shared sanitary facilities, such as showers, toilets, a kitchen and a sauna, and common lounging and play areas are also planned in connection with it.
